What sort of boss would you be?

26 January, 2010 (13:55) | Uncategorized | By: admin

I was lying in bed the other day, thinking…. and I wondered what sort of boss I would be if I was a boss in WOW. Would I be an easy loot giving boss like Loot Reaver, Chess Event, Gunship, or would I be a really hard one, like STUPID ROTFACE who is driving us crazy at the moment, or Shade of Aran was in Karazhan for our guild many moons ago? What would my special abilities be? What loot would I drop?

I would want to have something about me that really made each role think - healing, dps, tank. I’d like people to say “Wow - she really tested me there - I had to give it my all as a xyz”. I’d probably have 3 or 4 phases - one for healing, one for dps, one for tanking with perhaps a bit of each at the start or end. You would really have to be able to perform to get me down :)

As a healer, you would have to think about your mana, use all your available spells, make good use of your cooldowns, heal in different ways. You wouldn’t necessarily have to stack a certain stat, but be able to make full use of your class.

It might be fun to have a thing like Nefarian (LONG time ago) had that only applied to your class. Perhaps you would have to make use of a rarely used, but still good spell. I also liked Kael’Thas where you got to use Legendary weapons - it’s fun looking at my statistics and seeing that I have acquired 24 Legendary items. (Even funnier when you look up Kungen and see the poor thing has only 6 - serves him right for doing Tempest Keep way before achievements came in instead of cheating and doing it after).

Thinking about Kael’Thas - what would I look like? Would I change form? I discussed my thoughts for this post with Barkie. He decided that he wanted to be a bear that started Enraged. You would have to calm him down and placate him somehow before he would turn into his pussy cat form and play like a kitten. (insert gratuitous use of kitten picture).

This kind of fits with how he gets sometimes - he explodes in a rage, but then calms down and is all lovely and fluffy again. Would your boss match your individual IRL personality? Mine would probably overheal someone until they exploded or something, or smother them in hugs….

Loots - well, of course I’d have to drop a pet. A baby murloc would be good because lots of people want one. Or a nurse of some sort, that you could get additional potions from. I’d have to drop a GORGEOUS robe. And something chocolate…. yes, there would have to be chocolate in there somewhere…….

Over to you while I go hunt down some chocolate ;) Answers for yours on your blogs or in my comments please….

A very long and distirbing view into my mind:

I would start in the middle of a large room with four adds: Fluffy Bunny, Duckduck, Cuddly Chicken, and Polar Bear. Once pulled I would attack for moderate damage on a tank. I would switch randomly between targeting the top two on my threat table (short attention span you see), so two tanks would be needed.

During this phase the four adds would be untargetable and would occasionally randomly attack raid members. Fluffy Bunny would apply a Succubus type charm effect, Duckduck a poison DoT, Cuddly Chicken a normal melee attack, and Polar Bear a damage reduction debuff. These effects would be minor, but irritating.

At 30% I would use the ability ‘Throwing toys out of the pram’ and do a raid wide stun and knockback that threw everyone to the edges of the room. I would become untargetable but would continue to use an occasional raid wide AOE damage that reduces in power with distance. However, for this phase the four adds would become targetable and in addition to their previous abilities would start doing a normal melee attack.

Once all four adds were dead, I would enrage, hitting the tanks harder. I would also start using ‘Tears of destruction’. This would be a slowly spreading pool of tears that does steady damage to anyone in it. Healers would be able to cope with the additional damage on the tanks and melee, but once it hit ranged it would be overwhelming, essentially a soft timer.

I would like to be a fabulous grandstanding boss like Kael’thas… not a tedious drama-lama like the Saurfang family though!

And ideally people would still be quoting me two expansions later ;)
